Health tip associated with this recipe:

Estrogen is a known promoter of breast cancer, thus women with breast cancer, especially premenopausal women, should try to lessen the type of estrogen that may promote cancer. Cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and turnips, as well as wheat bran, have accelerated the metabolism of such estrogen supplies that could otherwise feed cancer. Women with breast cancer may want to try lowering circulating estrogen by eating more crucifers.

Health tip associated with this dish:

Vitamin B6 helps produce hormones and brain chemicals. It strengthens the immunity. It might lower the risk of memory loss, heart disease, depression, and morning sickness during pregnancy. Potato is a good source of this vitamin, as are avocados, bananas, whole grains, cooked dried beans, and nuts and seeds.

Right on my Kindle in one click! Great healthy recipes and how the ingredients help your body!

Its on my Kindle, available in one click and I am loving that one recipe for Scottish Barley Soup!!! I love barley and turnips and leeks - not something too many Americans know about. I got into the leek soups in England! Lovely, so healthy and tasty on a cold late winter - early spring day! I really enjoy reading about how each ingredient helps the body too. Very nicely done, thank you Alice R. Exley and when you look this up on Amazon, remember to look it up under the AKA author name of Vila Spiderhawk!

YUMMY in my tummy

This is one of the best cookbooks I've seen for truly healthy soups. And the ones I've tried are delicious! In, fact, all of her books have tons of wonderful and completely delicious recipes. You really need to get on the Super Soups train!

omg, Vila, I just made your vichyssoise from your Super Soups book and it tastes amazing! Thank you so much. Straff and I are going to have a delicious dinner tonight, thanks to your recipe.

Delicious!

Shop no further! You will not need another soup cookbook ever. Spiderhawk's "Super Soups" has delicious recipes as well as useful health advice. Yesterday I made vichyssoise that was perfect for a long summer evening (with enough left for lunch today). Spiderhawk's writing style is smart. informed, and with a dash of humor.

a great cookbook for those who like to make soups
By this time I have tried out three of the recipes in this cookbook, and I must say I have become devoted to the book. The Green Goddess Cucumber Soup was the hit of a pot luck lunch I was invited to. The Potato Leek Soup adorned a meal at home. Thirdly, I made the Creamy Mushroom Soup. I occasionally make minor modifications, for example, peeling the red-skinned potatoes for the Potato Leek Soup. Not knowing where to get maitake mushrooms I used portobellos and they were fine. This cookbook will be my livre de chevet or at least a permanent resident of my kitchen table. Richard le Grand Gourmand

Super Soups is (as all her cook books) crammed full of excellent tips for health and what products work best, not just recipes. I didn't know there were so many soups for every season. Every one of these tasty soups are nourishing and filling. If your not drooling just looking at the cover, wait til you see them all. I would also suggest her book on breads to accent the soups...mmmmmm... for Summer she shares the coolest chilled soups for those humid 90 + temperatures, and winter the tastiest and heartiest soups for a cold snowy day. You can't go wrong with this year round book of soups....

The Green Goddess Soup from your Super Soups was the rave of the picnic yesterday and I went home with an empty pot. For today I have prepared another from this book. Looking forward to the next one. Richard

Bought Super Soups on Kindle last night after having Vila's tomato bisque soup for lunch yesterday. Honestly, that is the absolute best tomato soup I've ever tasted, and it has no salt and no msg. I am adding the ingredients to my shopping list for this week!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best soup cookbook February 27, 2015
This is the best soup cookbook I have ever experienced. Her soup recipes are very tasteful and healthy. I made the Cabbage Soup and it was awesome. With such healthy ingredients such as Garlic, reduces the risk of a heart attack and helps with keeping cholesterol in check. This soup was so tasty and it made me feel healthy. I was able to make enough to freeze for future use.
I also made Alotta Beans Chili. This recipe was the best Chili I have ever experienced. And it is a very good way to get a great fiber content for your system.
There are chilled soups to enjoy also.
I would highly recommend this cookbook for all. And you can not beat the price of a cookbook with so many recipes.

Each time I get a SpiderHawk book, I think it's the best she's done. Once again, I'm wrong. She has outdone herself with Super Soups! This book is an amazing compilation of mouth-watering recipes and a wealth of information on herbs, fruits, vegetables, and grains--their uses, and their benefits. The recipes are only one part of this cookbook; it's more like a few books in one. She not only shares her recipes, she shares her endless knowledge of healthy eating.

She has combined recipes for chilled soups (more than I ever imagined) for those sweltering summer months as well as warm comforting soups for those chilly fall days and hearty winter stews to enjoy in a snowstorm.

The information she has included is invaluable. Instead of just throwing something in the pot, she explains why it's important to use this ingredient or that. Especially helpful are the hints on particular brands that best serve the recipes, especially if you are new to vegan or vegetarian cooking.

When I first opened this book, I wondered just how many soups could there be. The answer was more than I could have dreamed. She has renewed my interest in healthy, tasteful cooking and left me with a new respect for soup! Now I'm begging for a book on breads to go with these awesome soups!

Today I'm reviewing Super Soups for the 2nd time (and there will be many, many more) and I wonder how can one tiny person have so much knowledge in her little head.

As I look at the recipes, my stomach begins to growl and my brain gets hungry too. The more I read the more I want to know about this "vegetarian" way of life. It's not only the recipes that make this book, but all the invaluable information on the ingredients and preparation of them. I have never seen a cookbook that offers information on the best brands and health benefits of what goes into the recipes. If this book doesn't leave you wanting a change in the way you eat, it will give you the instructions to the most amazing comfort foods, be they cool summer soups or body-warming winter stews. If you own only one book on soups this is definitely the way to go. You will not only gain awesome recipes, but also the reasons you should eat them and the benefits you will reap from them. Thank you Vila for sharing your knowledge and good food with us...This truly a book of "Super Soups"!
